A graphic novel from 2007. Emilio, a former bank executive, is placed in a care home by his family after another Alzheimer's episode. There he adjusts to the home's routine and to very different fellow residents, and with help from Miguel, his roommate, he tries to hold on to his memory and avoid being moved to the top floor, where those who can no longer cope are sent.

Who it's for
For readers of comics and graphic novels, and for anyone who has looked after an elderly relative or one with Alzheimer's. It treats old age and dementia in an intimate tone with some humour, never as caricature.
Why people still read it
It won Spain's National Comics Award in 2008 and the best work and best script awards at the Barcelona Comics Fair. It has been translated into several languages, and its animated adaptation, directed by Ignacio Ferreras, won the Goyas for best animated film and best screenplay.

Why we only look at used copies

In Spain, Law 10/2007 fixes the price of new books: the publisher sets it and shops can only take 5% off. Amazon, FNAC and your local bookshop all cost the same. The only place the price moves is second-hand.
