Convert PDF to EPUB

Free, and without uploading the file: the conversion runs in your browser, and the PDF never leaves your computer.

Drop a PDF here

or

Up to 100 MB. Works with text PDFs; scanned ones (photos of pages) don't.

How it works

  1. It reads the PDF's text, with its position and font size, right in your browser.
  2. It rebuilds what a PDF doesn't store: where each paragraph ends, what's a heading, and words broken at line ends. It drops running headers and page numbers.
  3. It splits the book into chapters using the PDF's outline if it has one, or its headings if not, and builds an EPUB 3 with a table of contents.

Which PDFs come out well

Single-column text: novels, essays, reports. Tables, footnotes and two-column pages can come out jumbled. Scanned PDFs have no text, only images, and can't be converted without OCR.

To read it on your Kindle or Kobo

Kindle accepts EPUB: send it with Send to Kindle, from the web, the app or by email to your Kindle address, and Amazon converts it to its format. On a Kobo, copy it over the cable into the reader's folder. The EPUB keeps reflowable text, so you can change the font size, unlike with the PDF.

Your file never leaves your computer

The PDF is read and the EPUB built in this tab: the file isn't uploaded. You can check it in your browser's developer tools, in the network tab. All that's sent is an anonymous usage count and, if you leave the box ticked and the book is in our catalogue, which one it is, with nothing that identifies you.
