First published in 1949 and revised several times by its author, it sets out value investing: buying shares in sound companies for less than they are worth, with a long-term plan and without being swayed by market swings. Graham separates the investor, guided by analysis and discipline, from the speculator, and introduces Mr. Market, an allegory of the stock market's irrationality.

Who it's for
For readers who want to invest in the stock market with their own judgement and for the long term, whether cautious or more active, as the book deals with both profiles separately. Current editions include commentary by journalist Jason Zweig linking Graham's examples to more recent markets.
Why people still read it
Warren Buffett, who read it at 20, has called it by far the best book on investing ever written, and it remains one of the most widely read books on investing. Graham, regarded as the father of value investing, taught the approach at Columbia Business School from 1928.

Why we only look at used copies

In Spain, Law 10/2007 fixes the price of new books: the publisher sets it and shops can only take 5% off. Amazon, FNAC and your local bookshop all cost the same. The only place the price moves is second-hand.
